Transform Your Space: 5 Ways to set the mood and choose the perfect Art for your home

The spaces we live in have a profound impact on our mood and well-being.

As an artist with a background in interior design, I’ve always believed that the right environment can completely transform how we feel.

Think about the calm you feel in an intimate restaurant, with dim lighting and soft pinks that make you speak a little softer and relax your mind. Now picture your local trendy café—the bright whitewashed shiplap, striped navy umbrellas, and colorful cups that energize you, even before your first sip of coffee.

While avant-garde galleries may favor conceptual and often confronting art, I believe our homes should be sanctuaries—places that nurture and uplift us daily. I recognise art’s ability to explore the deeper, sometimes sad aspects of life, they say a picture is worth a thousand words, but within our personal spaces, we need more hope, more beauty. My goal as an artist is to help create interiors that make people feel good every day, not burdened by heavy intellectual concepts or lonely, empty walls.

Art and color are powerful tools to shape that perfect environment. Here are my tips on how to bring more joy into your home through thoughtful art choices and the right use of color:

1. Reflect Nature’s Beauty for a calm space:

Create the calm of a nature walk indoors with art that mirrors the natural world. Think landscapes, florals, or nature-inspired abstracts. The organic shapes and colours of nature can help you unwind at the end of a long day.

After choosing Botanical themed artwork, tie it all together with some indoor plants - some varieties are proven to really improve air quality too.

2. Layer Up with Different Styles & Make it Personal.
Mixing art styles adds depth and character to your space. Try pairing a vintage-style map with a modern abstract painting.
It’s this variety that makes a home feel truly lived-in and personal. I always love seeing gallery walls filled with artwork and keepsakes from travels—it tells a story and creates a feeling of nostalgia and exploration.

I’m a big fan of gallery walls that showcase treasures from around the world.

3. Pick Your Colours:

Colours like soft pastels or vibrant jewel tones can instantly brighten your mood. But when we talk about colour-remember black is also a colour, sometimes we can be scared of putting deep tones on our walls but they work brilliantly for moody interiors. Try adding artwork with calming soft blushes and peach and add lots of natural timbers and textural elements for warmth.

 4. Create a Focal Point

Every room needs a heart—a place that draws the eye and creates a sense of focus. A bold, colourful piece of art can do just that. Choose something that reflects your personality and style, something that will make you smile every time you walk into the room.

5. Go Big with Statement Art
Don’t be afraid to make a bold statement with larger pieces of art. Oversized artwork can fill an empty wall and transform a space, giving it that “wow” factor. A statement piece can set the tone for the rest of the room and make it feel more cohesive. In the examples above the delicately carved timber mandela style panel sets the tone for the rest of the room.

I design my artwork to not only enhance your interior but to elevate your well-being as well. Whether you’re looking to add warmth to a living room or create a peaceful retreat in your bedroom, each of my paintings tells a story and invites you to appreciate the beauty around you.
