I painted Colours of Australia in a wild, red-earthed corner of outback Queensland—the kind of place where your boots turn the colour of paprika. We were camping nearby, and I pottered off to a shady spot to paint for the day. This was the last piece I painted, and although Joel had come to collect me, I’m afraid I couldn’t stop.

A gum tree had caught the very last light—its leaves glowing golden green, casting long, poetically purple shadows across the dirt. The light was almost outrageous. Warm, saturated, the kind of colour that looks edited in a photo, but it wasn’t. The pinks and pastel peaches in the sky seamlessly blend to a dusky blue. The leaf tips looked like they’d caught fire. This is why I love painting en plein air. You can’t make this stuff up. You can only try to catch it.

I didn’t just want to paint the scene—I wanted to bottle the feeling. The last warmth of the sun on your skin, contrasted with the nip of chill as another April evening settled in.

Hang it where you need a hit of colour—a splash of sunset and gum leaf glory. Maybe beside your kettle, maybe above your desk. Or wherever your eyes land when you’re daydreaming about chucking it all in and heading bush.

About the artist

I'm Rebecca Eddison, an artist finding joy in the authentic textures of oil and watercolour. I capture the world through figurative, landscape, and still-life paintings. Practising art as a warm hug for the soul—it’s all about how colour can tickle emotions and stir up delightful nostalgia in all of us.

Armed with a spirited joie de vivre and an unquenchable thirst for travel, I paint not just to decorate, but to sprinkle moments of pause, colour, and joyous conversation into your home.

My creative journey is fueled by travel, plein air painting, photography, and countless sketchbooks filled with fleeting inspirations. I have a magpie-like obsession with patterned textiles and aged heirlooms, those charming objects with a story to tell, which often find their way into my compositions.

With a background in Interior Design, I can't resist the allure of colour theory. I layer hues with expressive brushwork, exploring its ability to transform the mood.

Think of each piece as a little reminder to savour life’s simple pleasures, embrace nature, and pat yourself on the back for making your home brighter.
