Painted in a sunlit paddock somewhere near Bollon in rural Queensland, this Australian outback landscape oil painting highlights the stillness of the bush.

I spent the day painting plein air, tucked under the arms of an old gum tree, with my oil paints spread out beside me and not another soul in sight. Just the soft hum of the breeze, the rustle of dry grass, and the hush that only happens when the land stretches endlessly in every direction.

Midday light in the outback is a funny thing. It strips colour back to its bare bones—the red earth holds its heat and saturation, but everything else fades into a dreamscape of soft greys, ghost-gums, and bleached olives. Overhead, the big Australian sky takes centre stage, impossibly blue and wide enough to carry your worries away.

I stood there for hours, boots in warm soil, surrounded by pink grass tufts and clouds drifting across the horizon. Sure, I should have worn more sunscreen, but I was happy with the day.

This original oil painting (16 x 20 inches, oil on board, unframed) brings that stillness indoors. It’s for anyone craving space—to breathe, to pause, to remember that the world is wider than your to-do list.

Hang it somewhere you’ll see it often, especially when life feels noisy. Let it remind you: there’s quiet beauty out there—and in here too. Free shipping from my studio to your place.

About the artist

I'm Rebecca Eddison, an artist finding joy in the authentic textures of oil and watercolour. I capture the world through figurative, landscape, and still-life paintings. Practising art as a warm hug for the soul—it’s all about how colour can tickle emotions and stir up delightful nostalgia in all of us.

Armed with a spirited joie de vivre and an unquenchable thirst for travel, I paint not just to decorate, but to sprinkle moments of pause, colour, and joyous conversation into your home.

My creative journey is fueled by travel, plein air painting, photography, and countless sketchbooks filled with fleeting inspirations. I have a magpie-like obsession with patterned textiles and aged heirlooms, those charming objects with a story to tell, which often find their way into my compositions.

With a background in Interior Design, I can't resist the allure of colour theory. I layer hues with expressive brushwork, exploring its ability to transform the mood.

Think of each piece as a little reminder to savour life’s simple pleasures, embrace nature, and pat yourself on the back for making your home brighter.
